Wix.com is the only free website provider that I know of that offers free flash websites.  The coolest websites are out there are flash websites, with animated pages and moving images.  Follow my step- by-step instructions below to get your own totally free flash website. The great thing about building a free flash website at Wix.com is that they go out of their way to make your pages search engine friendly. This is not a common practice with flash websites. They have 1000's of free templates and their drop and drag interface makes building a professional flash website easy. You can create an entire website, or just a widget that you can embed in an existing site, like your facebook page.

     To sign up, CLICK HERE, it will open in a new window so you can continue reading this tutorial.  Click the big "Start Now" button. You will be asked for your email, password and user name. The next page will allow you to edit your account information, explore what other peoples' sites look like or start building your free flash website. For the sake of this tutorial, click the "Create" link and we will get started.

Building Your Free Flash Website

     You will then be at a page that you can choose a template. You can start with a blank page, or choose 1 of the many free templates. When you find a template you like, click on it and you will see a full size version. If you still like it and want to use it for your free flash website, click on the blue "Edit" button at the top right of the page. (you can always change your mind later) The first time I did this, I didn't actually see the template I chose, but a small window in front of it. If this is the case, just close the front window and you should see your chosen template.

Editing Your Website

     Depending on which template you have chosen, the amount of editing may be different. For example, to edit the title, just click at the end of the word(s) and backspace, then replace with your desired title. Generally to edit any part of the page, you can just left click on it and choose an option from the drop-down box. You can also add items like photos, music, clipart, text and widgets to the page by clicking the icons in the left column. The top toolbar also will help you edit the different sections of the page. The best bet is to just click on a tool to see what happens. That is why free website building is a great asset. You can learn as you go and if you ever need help, click the question mark bubble at the bottom left of the page and a page will open to answers your web building questions. Hint: if you make a change by accident or want to reverse an action, in the top bar click "edit", then undo.

Adding Pages To Your Website

     Depending which template you choose, you may need to add or remove pages to suit your needs. The easiest way to add a page is to click "Manage" on the top right. Here you will see a list of your pages. You can add a page, or delete a current page. You can also duplicate a page if like a layout, or hide a page.

Creating links

     To create a hyperlink, all you have to do is click on the text and choose edit in the menu box. Then near the bottom, click the "Link" icon. You can choose to link to another page within your site or use a URL from a different (external) website.

Publishing Your Website

      You probably notice that you have not even chosen an address for your website. When you are finished editing, or just quitting for this session, you will need to "publish" your website. To do this, you will need to click the green "Publish" button on the top right. The first step after you click publish is to name your Wix. After choosing a name, you will choose whether to publish your creation as a full website or embed the flash inside a current site. For this tutorial, I will choose "Wix Site". You will then choose "best fit" or "true size". Depending on your design, you may choose either one. You will now see the web address of your site and you can edit your title, description and keywords. Click "Publish" at the bottom. You can now connect it to an existing domain name or click "finish".
